During a recent presentation I was asked by Maryland Association of CPAs Executive Director Tom Hood, “How do small firms and businesses remain competitive in the global marketplace?”

As a business owner and a professor, I have found that leveraging technology to effectively collaborate with colleagues and other businesses to achieve results is the key to remaining relevant and competitive.

It is also essential to access the wealth of resources of professional organizations such as the Maryland Association of CPAs and the Business Learning Institute. The MACPA and BLI offer knowledge resources and networks that are vital for organizations of any size, but especially smaller enterprises that do not possess the internal capabilities.
