“Public accounting is such a changing profession,” says Stephanie Travis, PHR, Director of Human Resources at Watkins Meegan. “We want to be sure to develop our professionals.”
Watkins Meegan is a 240 person accounting firm with four offices in Maryland and Virginia. They have worked with the Business Learning Institute for 14 years. By bringing BLI courses on-site to their offices, they are able to develop a calendar that meets their learning strategy requirements for the year.
Watkins Meegan has a diverse staff who serve many industries. There is a member of each industry group that is a part of their training team who interfaces with BLI. BLI knows Watkins Meegan well, and relies on real relationships with individuals there to plan their variety of learning programs.
Being a strategic learning partner can mean different things for different organizations. For Watkins Meegan, The Business Learning Institute regularly suggests specific courses or specific instructors based on what the client requests are. “They make sure we are making the best investment in learning,” said Stephanie. BLI brings our breadth of knowledge to the table, and we love working with clients who take as much interest our new ideas as we do. There’s a creative aspect to curriculum design, and Watkins Meegan is an ideal client in that they are open to our suggestions of new topics and new resources.
BLI tailors content and courses to blend well with the other training and CPE that Watkins Meegan offers their staff. It’s all about helping people’s careers move forward. Stephanie said, “It’s exciting to see our staff grow. Our staff improves their performance because of the opportunities they have to learn. It’s easy to see it in people.”
